Welcome to the International Chernobyl Network

Children from Borydanka Ukraine arrive home with wonderful memories of their visit to England. The children spent a month with the Billericay Chernobyl Children’s Life Line link. They were taken care of by volunteer host families. The children visited the dentist and opticians. The children will always remember the kindness of the British people

"So many new activities and entertainment I had never in my life. I love to roller skate, and in England also mastered conventional skates. This amusement park, where I visited my parents and friends have only seen in movies. And the first time I lived at the camp - is a camp in nature - they told us a lot about the UK, conducted a variety of workshops, organized fun on land and water. Princess of Asturias Award 2016







Last April 26th, FEDASIB Spain, as we already told you , presented the candidacy to the Princess of Asturias 2,016 prize, in the categorie Concord, for the Heroes of Chernobyl. We will know in September the decision of the jury, so it is now when we ask you for the last effort to support this candidacy.

Action Weeks 2016 in Great Britain

Chernobyl Children’s Life Line organised many different Actions for the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. There was Cathedral and church services including Canterbury Cathedral, all were attended by many dignitaries and members of the public. Candles were lit in remembrance of those who lost their lives as a result of the disaster.

Belarusian Memorial Chapel

The project designed by Spheron’s Tszwai is already started.

The Belarusian Memorial Chapel is being built dedicated to the memory of the victims of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster,in Finchley, north London and the project is funded by the Holy See of Rome.

The foundation of the chapel is now completed, and on 7th Feb, there will be a small ceremony to lay the cornerstone.

The chapel is expected to be completed in Autumn, and they are planning to have some commemorating events in April for the 30th Anniversary of Chernobyl.

V Nacional Forum Fedasib

                      El pasado 18-20 Septiembre, tuvo lugar en Madrid la celebración del V Foro Nacional organizado por Fedasib, con la participacion de todas las organizaciones y grupos que desarrollan actividades humanitarias con niños bielorrusos tras la catástrofe de Chernobyl.

En dicho Foro, fueron discutidas las diversas propuestas y perspectivas para la acción española en Bielorrusia y las actividades que se realizan en España desde la catástrofe de Chernobyl a favor de la infancia Bielorrusa.

30th Anniversary in Ukraine

On the 12thApril Journalists arrived in Korosten Ukraine fromEquator to interview liquidators as part of a documentary for the 30th anniversary of Chernobyl. Tomás Ciuffardi  had made contact through The facebook page Fire Fighters of Chernobyl  to ask for help to meet liquidators. Alexy Geraimovich a fire fighter in Korosten organised such meetings with Chernobyl witnesses. Alexy is also involved with the Ukraine Fire Fighter Project, a member of the ICN. For the 3oth anniversary of the fire service  of Korosten took part in an event held in the town for remembering the liquidators. Also at the Event was fire fighter  Michael Pitney from the UK and the founder of the Ukraine Fire fighter project. Hundreds of people turned out for the service along with widows and families who have lost loved ones as a result of the disaster.

Premio Nobel Literatura 2015

El pasado 8 de Octubre, una noticia inundaba todos los medios: El premio Nobel de Literatura 2015 fue asignado a la bielorrusa Svetlana Alexiévich.

Efectivamente, este premio nobel supone un reconocimiento por “su obra polífónica que hace un monumento al sufrimiento y al coraje en nuestro tiempo” . Svetlana, nacida en Ucrania y criada en Bielorrusia, trata precisamente todos los temas a los que durante tantos años,   nuestras asociaciones, así como ICN, ha tenido que enfrentarse para que la catástrofe de Chernobyl no se olvide.

Happy Holidays Across Europe

Thousands of children from Belarus and Ukraine have been enjoying recuperative holidays with Chernobyl organisations across Europe. Children of all ages, from 5 year olds with their mums, to teenagers, have a month long holiday which boosts their immune systems and gives them a better chance of staying healthy. This is particularly important for children who have had cancer or other serious illness and for those who live in the more contaminated areas.

Tchernobyl Forever

This is a beautiful and powerful book and  DVD which tells the story of the disaster and it ongoing effects. The book is dedicated to Vasily Nesterenko, former director of the Institute of Nuclear Energy at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and one of the most important liquidators of the consequences of the disaster.

Happy Summer for Belarusian and Ukrainian Children!

All across Europe ECN member organisations have been hosting children for recuperative holidays during the summer. Some of the children are in remission from cancer or other serious illness, others have not had major health problems yet but live in contaminated parts of Belarus or Ukraine. For all the children, four weeks of fresh air and clean food provides a boost to their immune systems and leaves them stronger and healthier for at least the next two years.

European Action Weeks 2015: Commemorating Chernobyl and Fukushima at more than 100 locations

Candles actions, witnesses’ interviews and other events that took place this year in more than 100 cities in Europe, Turkey, Brazil and Japan, remind us of the 29th anniversary of Chernobyl nuclear disaster. "We shouldn’t forget the tragic consequences of the misfortune in Chernobyl that destroyed the lives of so many people”, says Peter Junge-Wentrup, CEO of IBB Dortmund which initiated the campaign of European Action Weeks "For a future after Chernobyl and Fukushima". "We must learn from such disasters for the sake of common history in Europe."

Partner organizations from Great Britain, Poland, Belarus, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Ukraine, Spain and Turkey were taking part in EAW with a total of more than 200 events - including witnesses’ interviews in schools, press-conferences, panel discussions, lectures, music festivals, art and theater performances.
